Can't open my file anymore!

Hello,
I don’t know if you can, but I need your help (someone).
As you can see from the screenshot, I can’t open my “dress code” scrivener file.
What can I do??

Thanks,

Cyril Wohrer

It looks like you are an iCloud user, and perhaps you are using Apple’s new-ish feature to upload your entire Documents folder to iCloud? If so there are two things to be aware of:

  • Apple’s default settings will delete old files automatically to save disk space, leaving the sole copy on iCloud’s server. It is unknown how well this policy plays with package formats like Scrivener’s, which are comprised of many hundreds if not thousands of internal files. If most of your project is not actually on the disk, it may need to download it, and I don’t know if it waits to download a thousand files before trying to open it.

A pretty substantial hint that something isn’t right here is found in your Preview sidebar, where this project is listed as having a sum total of zero bytes. It is an empty folder most likely.

  • Your iCloud activity indicator in the Finder sidebar suggests there are pending operations. Might it be this project was edited elsewhere, and is still downloading the changes?
