Working on project on my Windows 11 PC, need to open / work on it on HP laptop. Saved it to Google Drive, trying to follow the careful instructions: NOT trying to open FROM GD; rather, download the folder, save to Downloads laptop folder, open from Scrivener. Googled it, that’s what they said to do. It always responds:
…
myproject- 10-26-26.scrivx" is the main structure file for a project, but other required files for this project could not be found: the \Files\Data and \Settings folders are missing.
If you have access to the Windows 11 PC, I’d advise making a ZIP backup from there and using that. Google Drive cannot be trusted with live Scrivener projects.
Yeah, understood: Google Drive can’t be trusted “live.” I am NOT intending to use the Scrivener project file direct from GD; I want to simply import / save the file onto my HP laptop, and just open / use it from the desktop, as I do on my PC.
This forum will not allow me to post my reply, which is the instructions I was given on google, so you all could see what’s going on. (it says "new users can only post 2 links.???)
Anyway, it says to go ahead and extract the zip files from the DESKTOP PC. Then, "Choose a permanent local folder on your laptop (such as your Documents folder or a dedicated Scrivener Projects folder) and click Extract..
But how do I get the files from the PC to the LAPTOP?
My assumption would be to do what I did before: save the zipped files on GD, save to the LAPTOP, then unzip them from there…they are not showing me how to get the files FROM the PC to the LAPTOP.
Okay, I’m GOOD! I saved the project on a flash drive, opened it from there, it opened fine-- then saved it to the laptop. Thanks, I realized I just needed to bypass GD completely. Honestly, haven’t used a flash drive in AGES…haven’t needed one at all…but they can still serve a purpose! Note: I used to come here for help, then put the novel on the shelf when Covid hit. Getting back to it now, and very happy to be working in Scrivener again. I’ll try to not be too much of a pain.
Yep, you’ll see the message above: I’m good! Just installed from a flash drive…had to look around to find one; used to have a dozen, now…? lol.
Thanks!
