Character sketch template, how?

How do i even add a character sketch template ? when i go to Add, there is no sketch template to add for my characters. I have made them so they are characters in my character folder. I usually have settings on swedish but i’ve tried with changing back to english but theres still no sketch template to add.

Instead it’s Add > New Text or New folder, excisting files, and web page…but no template. I’m new to scrivener so please help me fix this.

I saw this guide on youtube that highlighted synopsis and the use of Character sketch template and it would help me in my writing, to progress the characters and their personalitys.

Regards, Shelm

Take a blank file and manipulate and add tables categories, etc. when have file way you want and name character template and drag to template folder. Once inside that special folder becomes a template. If not have template folder already in research folder, make a regular folder there and name templates. Now go project>project settings> special folders and designate newly created template folder as The Template Folder and it will be changed and have a t in it . Now when in binder and right click at top where see add options will see list of templates you can insert in the binder where you currently are

Re-iterating this! If you don’t have any templates appearing under the Add option, you don’t have a designated document templates folder. You’ll need to set this in order to be able to create new documents from template.

The basics of setting up and creating your own document templates is also covered in the interactive tutorial, found in the Help menu. To jump straight to it, click into the location bar in the main toolbar, where it likely says “START HERE”, and type in “document template”. Press return to navigate to the top search result.

And how do i do that ? i’ve made my own character templates and saved them on the pc but when i search for them there is no file to open.

Are they “on the PC,” or inside a Scrivener project? You need to import them into a project (File → Import) in order to make them accessible to Scrivener.

i’m going file → import and to the location to get it inside scrivener but there is nothing to import from the map. I want a character template for the project i’m writing on now, not start a new project.

When i open a new map and look it’s there, I don’t know what to make of this to be honest, it really frustrates me.

I’ve tried what you said but when i get to the last step to designate a template folder there is no option that allows that.

Sadly you can’t upload pictures to show what i mean but i hope you understand what i mean!

To clarify, where did you make your character templates? Are they in the same Scrivener project you’re trying to use them in, a separate Scrivener project, or a different program altogether like Microsoft Word? Depending on where they are, the steps will be different to proceed.

If you go to Project → Project Settings → Special Folders you can set the Templates folder there. A folder has to be at the root level (it can’t be inside the Manuscript/Draft folder, for example) in order to appear in the dropdown there.

As Jen said, the key is create the templates folder first in for example the research section at the top of research so will be easy to find. Then go to Project Settings to choose a folder to be your template folder see pic below.

I don’t know if you can tagg more then one so ill just do it like this…THANK YOU @JenT & @GoalieDad for keeping answering my topiq. I don’t know what i would have done with out your patient and educational answers to me…You have helped me with now being able to progress even more in my science-fiction book that i’m writing.

Thank you isent enough but it will have to do to show my appreciation!!

Once you create the template folder you can have an unlimited number of templates and if right click on any folder/file and see option to add file and folder on seperate lines, BELOW those will be all the templates you have created and if organize in folders by type (world building, characters, scenes etc) can dive into folder and pick out a template to add just below current file or folder.
