Clearing Direct Formatting

I’m using Scrivener 3.1.6.0 on Linux (running Windows emulation). How can I clear direct formatting so that the styles I’ve selected override any and all direct formatting in the text?

Thanks.

The name for this feature is different in Scrivener, because it also handles text that hasn’t been styled (body text), and allows for selective removal of formatting. Here is the general write-up on working with default formatting. This article does not happen to mention that the command also restores style formatting, which you can think of as removing “direct formatting” from it (it’s a little fuzzier in Scrivener, than a word processor).
