My setup is pretty much plain windows 10. But I do have two attached Synology NAS drives. Synology DMS apparently runs on Linux. But I dont know whether that can leave any awkward settings on a windows box. Otherwise a variety of printers (Epson and Brother) attached.
I’ve got a few Qt 5 programs I use (OBS studio, vlc, multimc, frescobaldi, plasma 5) I haven’t noticed a crash with them, either? Is there a way to reproduce it in another context?
I’m running Scrivener with wine (wine-staging 5.20, PE-enabled with mingw-64) I haven’t actually had Scrivener crash when checking for an update–it just eventually slows everything down and never actually checks, near as I can tell. I can recover when that happens by killing the process.
Could it be a CPU instruction? (Ryzen 5 1600 here.) Video card? (Nvidia 1050ti, 460.27.04 drivers.) Qt version? (Slackware current is using 5.15.2)
This is probably no help, but maybe it will trigger an insight in somebody.
I had probably the same problem back with Scrivener-2999-installer_hidpi_x64. It was working fine… Okay, it worked fine a couple of times. Then it started crashing very shortly after every launch (17 seconds sounds about right). The only major change that happened in between was that the May 2020 Windows 10 update finally got pushed to my machine. (I later downloaded the regular non-hidpi version of 29910, and it was fine again. I haven’t needed to use Scrivener in the last few months, so I can’t tell you when exactly it stopped working again, but 29913 was back to crashing.)
Perhaps the next version could have auto-update disabled by default?
