Compile Interrupted Font Issue

I have a strange font issue when compiling to Word (latest version):

Scrivener 3, Windows 11 -

Font set to Times New Roman both in the editor and Compile settings. Everything else compiles properly BUT, in Word the paragraph markers (end of every para) is changed to Courier as is the footer. Header is correct (TNR) because I have text coming from Scrivener there.

I have searched forums and asked people who know Compile extremely well, and none can figure out what’s going on. Issue is not a one-off. It happens with every document I compile, and I compile a lot.

No Style set in Scrivener, using Scene Text in layout, with TNR 12, etc. this only affects the end of every para and the footer.

Anyone got insight into what may be doing it? Oh, and I can’t find any help in Word Forums that would explain if Word is causing this.

Same here, I use styles in Scriv for headings and everything ends up with Courier applied just to the paragraph marks.

I guess to fix it you could open the Styles sidebar (ed: in MS Word), set the options to Select styles to show - In current document, Select formatting with “paragraph level formatting” and “font formatting”, click ok and in the style list you’ll see things like “Heading 1 + Courier”. Right click those, select all occurrences, then Ctrl-Spacebar to reset the formatting to default.

I exported a project as DOCX from yWriter because the editor is as barebones as it gets so there’s no reason for it to export any font or style information with the text, it just uses the predefined paragraph style in the Word tempalte. The paragraph marks end up formatted according to the paragraph style in Word, with the paragraph marks font matching whatever is defined for the style tag.

So not a Word issue, and other apps that generate Word docs don’t do this (sample of 1 but that satisfies me that it’s not Word doing it). I would conclude that Scrivener is giving the paragraph marks extra unwanted formatting.

I’m sure there’s a Perfectly Reasonable Explanation for it that only makes sense to people who use Scrivener properly or something.

Thanks, Victor. I tried that but everything shows as TNR, but Word does do its own thing. Despite saving styles for “all new documents” for example, next time I create a document, it reverts to Word’s idea of what that should be. I’ve edited to Normal template to no avail. Thanks for suggestions.

Yeah you have to actually tell Scrivener to use Word styles for headings and text when you compile to DOCX, and even with that, Scrivener “decorates” the paragraph endings with Courier.
