Compiling only showing one chapter title

Really not sure what I’m doing wrong, but for some reason every time I try to compile, no matter the format it says “Chapter 1” and then doesn’t show any other chapter titles. I’ve tried changing the folder names, but nothing seems to be working.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Have you assigned the same Section Types to the other chapters that you have to Chapter 1? Section Types are visible in the Contents pane of the main Compile screen, among other places.

I thought I had it set right, but all that ever shows up is “1” on the first page.

(I tried to attach a screenshot, but the forum stopped me)

Again, what Section Type is associated with the problem sections?

(I’ll update your trust settings so you can post a screenshot.)

Thank you for the trust settings. Way easier than trying to type this out.

Annnnd I think I just got it to work. I was expecting say Chapter 1 to end somwhere on a page, break, Chapter 2 at the top of the next page, but it’s just doing it almost like a paragraph break. I have all of the chapters set to “Chapter Heading.”

Whether there’s a page break before a new chapter or not is configurable. See Section 24.4 in the manual, on Separators.

Your Binder structure is making your life more difficult in a couple of ways.

First, Scrivener is happy to auto-number sections for you, allowing you to use descriptive titles (or no title at all) in the Binder. That’s done via the Title Options for the Section Layout, which are discussed in Section 24.2.4 in the manual. It wouldn’t hurt to at least skim all of Section 24.2, though, as the Section Layout formatting is where the most common Compile customizations happen.

Second, if you only have one document in each Chapter folder, the second level of hierarchy is completely unnecessary. It’s not “wrong” to have it, but especially in this case, where the Chapter Heading and the Scene carry exactly the same information, it just adds an extra layer of things for you to worry about.

Got it. Really appreciate your help and patience. I’m normally better with software in this, there is just a LOT going on in here.
