Compiling outline from project

Hello Folks,

First post here:

I’d to print an outline of my project that includes:
Folder titles
Scene Titles, Synopses, Notes, Keywords

I don’t care about formatting. I’d like to export to Text or Word so I can delete extra spaces, reduce fonts, etc.. Since I’m printing it, I don’t want it to be too long.

I tried the Outline formats available, but the output was almost 300 pages. So obviously that includes the text.

Sorry if this should be apparent, but I’ve spent many hours on this, and on another project, a novel.

Thanks much!
Adele

Hi.

All three of the “outline” compile formats don’t include text.

But, if you don’t assign anything in the middle section of the compile panel, you’ll get text, as there is nothing to tell the compiler to exclude it.
If you see the yellowish box, nothing is assigned.

You say you don’t care about formatting:
alternatively you could use the print function.
These are the available settings from File / Print settings

Have what you want to print selected in the binder, have the editor display in outline view (and visually confirm your content / selection). Set this up (above screenshot) then print. Etiher to paper or to a file.

. . . . . . .
There are still more ways. But these would be the main ones that include all of what you’ve mentioned. (Synopsis etc.) (The second option -Print- doesn’t include notes, though. – Compile will forever be the best option no matter what.)

Thanks, Vincent. That was really helpful. I still don’t understand what’s going on completely, but I made progress.

The Print Settings option was quick to set up, but didn’t include Notes, likes you said.

I created a copy of the Outline Document, and exported to Word. It took some time to format, but I got everything I wanted. I wasn’t able to include Keywords without the rest of the Metadata. Since that took up 4 lines for each scene, I went through the doc and deleted those. I do want to print eventually, so I want to save some space.

That still took less time than the first time I tried this.

Thanks much! :slightly_smiling_face:

Tell me exactly what you need, I’ll design you a compile format. (If you want, of course. – And if you plan on re-compiling again and again as you go.)
I might be able to make it so you don’t have to retouch the file once compiled.

No text.
Notes.
Keywords (before or after notes?)

What else? (Aside from what was mentioned in your first post.)
And the order in which you want it to come out.
