Compiling the Scrivener User Manual

Hi All (although most likely Ioa),

I have downloaded the Scrivener Project file for the ‘Scrivener User Manual’ from the website, but am having difficulties getting it to compile.

At first, when I attempted to compile, it gave me a list of MMD errors about not understanding certain tags etc. (unfortunately, I cannot copy in the errors for reasons I will explain below).

I thought it may have been a problem with my version of MMD, so I downloaded and installed the latest version from here (github.com/fletcher/peg-multimarkdown/downloads), but that did not have any effect.

Then, I thought it might have been related to the ‘Support’ download available from the same link, so I downloaded and installed that as well.

Now when I attempt to compile it, Scrivener is getting halfway through the compile and then quitting altogether. I have checked the Console, and it gives me this message:

20/07/11 5:57:32 PM com.apple.launchd.peruser.501[118] ([0x0-0x4d04d].com.literatureandlatte.scrivener2[594]) Exited abnormally: Broken pipe

I am assuming my problem is related to my MMD install. Do I need to delete my MMD and start again? Is there a custom MMD install I should be using? Do I need to do anything special to get it to compile?

Regards,
Matt

This is still an MMD2 compatible project, not MMD3, so the peg-multimarkdown version you got will not work yet. This is something that I have on my list of things to do once stuff settles down, but it will take quite a bit of work as some crucial things have changed. So for now you’ll need to either use an installation of MMD2, and install the XSLT file that is located in the Materials folder. The help file at the top also points you to a LaTeX class you’ll need to actually typeset the thing after you compile it. AppleKeys is the name of it.

I should also mention that it will require 2.1 at this point, because it utilises the new front matter feature. If you haven’t upgraded yet, you’ll need to drag the contents of the correct front matter folder out of Materials and back to the top of the draft.

I don’t suppose you have a link to MMD2 download do you?

I can only find MMD3 download links.

Matt

Just delete the “peg-” part of the URL.
