I’m confused about something I just happened to notice.
Some days ago when I first started using Scrivener, I dragged an xlsx file into the Research folder from Explorer, where an item was created with a link to the file. I just wanted to see how it worked.
As I recall, at some point not long after that, I deleted that item, and later emptied the trash.
A little while ago (for reasons unrelated to this), I was searching my drive for *.xlsx files, and was surprised to find 16 of them inside my Scrivener project’s Docs folder. They are all the identical file, with different Scrivener-ized names, like 15.xlsx, 17.xlsx, 18.xlsx, 200.xlsx, 201.xlsx, 202.xlsx, and so on.
I don’t understand where they would have come from, and why there would be so many of them. I would have thought (correctly?) that an item, once imported or dragged into the project, would have been assigned its Scrivener number, which would remain constant. The multiple copies with different numbers suggests it was somehow copied within the project, but I don’t see how that would have happened. I definitely didn’t bring it in that number of times. Adding to the mystery, I can’t find any reference to the item or the file within the project itself.
So I’m wondering, if that is as unusual as it seems, and if I might/could have done something early on that led to that happening.
Basically, I’m not sure what I"m seeing here, and would like a better understanding.
Thanks.
