Convert Quotes to Smart Quotes malfunctions when used from hotkeys

I’m on Scrivener 3.4 on MacOS.

I’ve set up a hotkey for Convert Quotes to Smart Quotes. When using this hotkey, the smart quotes curl outward, in the opposite direction from text they should be curling inward toward.

When executing the conversion from the menu item instead, it works as intended.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Set up a hotkey for Convert Quotes to Smart Quotes in the OS.
  2. Use the hotkey in a text file that contains straight quotes.
  3. The quotes will curl “backward,” away from the text.

You can then use Convert Quotes to Straight Quotes from the Edit > Transformations menu, then Convert Quotes to Smart Quotes from the same menu, and they will correctly curl inward.

Which version of MacOS are you on? Intel or M-series? I have just tried making a shortcut Ctrl-' for Convert Quotes to Smart Quotes, and no problem here on MacOS 15.4.1, Scrivener 3.4, M2Pro CPU.

I’m on an M3 MacBook Pro running Sequoia 15.4.1.

It seems to be related to the specific hotkey combo I’m using, which is Command + Control + '. When using different combos, including the one you suggested, the issue does not appear.

That probably means that there’s a collision: something else on your system is trying to use the same combination.
