Cover image on first page of PDF for paperback

At some point, I provided a cover image for the PDF compile for paperback. I am now ready to create the PDF to upload for publishing, but I can’t remove the cover image from the first page. It is not in the front matter, so where is it coming from? Thanks

What happens when you untick ‘Add front matter:’ in Compile?
Did you design and/or include a cover in the first place, or a third party on your behalf?
Best you can do is a Project Search for Cover and see what pops up the Binder. Right-click or control-click on whatever is found and select Reveal in Binder, which will show you where it’s located in your project by highlighting the actual Binder location.
It’s unlikely that it’s not in Front Matter else it wouldn’t render correctly, so check sub-folders/documents under Front Matter.

Thanks for the reply. This is an interesting experiment. With “include front matter” unticked, I still get the cover image as the first page. Searching for cover doesn’t show anything unexpected.

I found it. Thanks for the help. I remember now (I am getting old) that
in the compile window, in the far right of the settings tabs is one called
cover image. I pointed to the image there and so it appears at the front
of every compile. Strange that is a separate option from front matter.

Covers are not part of front matter because workflows downstream from Scrivener handle them differently. In print, the cover will typically be printed on different stock, often by a different physical press. In ebooks, the cover is typically used as a preview image.
