Please could you tell me EXACTLY what you did before this happened? Crash logs are only ever half the story.

I was working on a project, and tried to export the draft. I was searching for options in the normal Preference Panel not in the export option panel. I had to do this, because I could not find the way to export the draft with counted characters. Either saw <$cc> in the rtf-file or strange formatting. Because I was browsing through the tabs in preferences I do not really know what was the last click.

There is a known bug in 4.1 (fixed for beta 5) whereby the <$cc> and <$wc> variables don’t get replaced with the actual character and word counts. This was rather stupidly introduced between 4.0 and 4.1 (ie. it worked for about a day), when I fixed a more major bug in export draft. So, this will work again very soon. Sorry about that.

Your crash is very hard to recreate. It seems to have been caused by something after you cancelled the preferences pane, but everything in the crash report after that is internal Cocoa stuff - not Scrivener-specific code - which makes it next to impossible to trace unless I can recreate it.

I have added it to my “tracking” list, as one to look out for in the future. Hopefully, as more users use Scrivener and it is used for longer, these difficult-to-trace bugs will eventually get refined and tracked down. There are about two or three crashes that are very rare and have only ever happened once to one user (most programs - even ones that have been going for years - have a couple of unironed bugs that will cause a crash on rare occasions). Hopefully I’ll get 'em in the long run, but I’m sorry for say that for now this one will have to go on the “waiting for more information to appear” list.
