Create a Keyboard Shortcut to Insert a Horisontal Line

I understand how to create Keyboard Shortcuts for actions that are already wired into Scrivener like Paste and Match Style for example.

However, I’d like to create a Keyboard Shortcut to insert a Horizontal Line/Page-Spanning Line.

Is this possible? If so, please advise how to do it.

Thanks

It is in the menu in both Scriv2 and Scriv3 so you can bind it to a keypress using systen preferences, just use ⌘⇧? and type line to find its name (there are three line options).

Thanks, @notroppo, That will be great to know once I get it working.

I must be doing something wrong because I can’t enter the ‘Command Shift ?’ in the system prefs box.

Could you clarify exactly where I need to enter the ‘Command Shift ?’ sequence to pop up view of all the wired in keyboard commands?

Sorry the ⌘⇧? is only to search in the Scrivener menu’s to find the specific menu name you need (it must be an iten not a parent menu name). THEN you take that name (here we choose Page-Spanning Line) and use it to create a setting in System Prefs:

Which then available for use in Scrivener:

Thanks so much— that did the trick!

Do you know of the a place where we can see all of the keyword commands that are wired into Scrivener?

Appendix §7 of the user manual, though it includes descriptions of what commands do so isn’t really a simple “cheat sheet” style. There are some cheat sheets for Scrivener (google for them), or you can use software like KeyCue which generates a cheat sheet on the fly for any app:

And of course, ⌘⇧? is really helpful for natural language searching for these kinds of things…

As a postscript to the above, I’ve used KeyCue for years. I believe that it may have at least one rival, but I’ve been very satisfied with it.

I’ll second that about KeyCue, Hugh.

It’s particularly useful if you use Keyboard Maestro because it picks up all their macros as well.
