Creating non-linked headers in Table of Contents

I am compiling a collection of short stories for an anthology to be published only in ePub format later this year. The editor of the series wants a table of contents that looks similar to the following:

Spotlight:

  • Story 1
  • Story 2
  • Story 3

Included

  • Story 4
  • Story 5
  • Story 6

etc…

Is it possible to have these “headers” of Spotlight and Included in the TOC without them being linked?

Thanks!

Yes. At its heart, Scrivener is an outlining writing tool.
Spotlight and Include could be header documents or folders.
Story 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 could be sub-folder or sub-document headers.
The stories themselves could each be a document of their own or multiple documents dependant on their length and if you wish to sub-divide multiple scenes.

That’s an approach. It’s not the be-all and end-all of all approaches.

Work through the Interactive Tutorial (available from the Help menu) and decide what is of value to you and use what is and don’t use what’s not. That’s the diversity of the product. There is no one size fits all format or specifics that need to adhere to a template.

The one rule is, don’t treat it like a word processor and pack everything into one document, unless your stories are really short, like 600 words in total, pitching 6 entries for some online competition.
