I want to add custom meta data onto my chapter headings so that I can direct compile to use images instead of simply text. This can be done on MAC but not on windows edition?
There appears to be no custom meta data option on the drop down from project - meta data settings
Correct me if I am wrong please, so that I can do this.

Correct, this feature (actually you would need two of them, since the meta-data you would be using is plain-text, you also need a placeholder for including images) has not been implemented yet. Note you can put the picture in its own file at the beginning of the chapter, or even in the folder text editor itself (making sure to add “Text” to the output list for folders in the Formatting compile option pane).
