Customizable icon names

Scrivener comes with a rich set of icons for the binder. But their names, as far as I can see, are what they are: they can’t be changed. It would be nice if these names were customizable too.

It’s not a permanent solution, but you can customise the names of the default icons from within the application package itself.

 1. Select “Scrivener” in your Applications folder (or wherever it is installed).
 2. Right-click on it and select “Show Package Contents” from the contextual menu.
 3. Navigate to the Contents/Resources/Default Support Folder/Icons folder.

You should see all of the icon files now. If you rename the files, they will be renamed accordingly in the menu.

Important: icons are assigned to binder items purely based upon their name. If you change the icon name, existing assignments in projects will be lost so long as the name differs (the actual assignment will still be there, it just won’t work so long as “Eye.tiff”, etc., can’t be found).
