Firstly, I have made one post here, and I just found most responses to be… combative? I’m just asking for help and would appreciate help. I’m new to Scrivener, and I bought it only yesterday, so I apologise in advance if I am dumb or missing something that to more advanced users is obvious.
I have been trying to work with formatting. I have tried to set a base user font style by going to options, editing, and then formatting. On that panel I set Times New Roman, 11 pt, Regular, click Apply, and close the options. Then I make a new text document and start typing, and the text immediately reverts to 13 pt. (It says so in the style strip above the document). I go back to options, and sure enough, the default font is back to 13 pt.
I then did the same process, set it to 11 pt., applied it, closed it, and immediately reopened the options, and in the editing formatting panel it had reverted to 13 pt.
Also, I’m not sure if this is helpful, but when I type any text into a new, blank text document, it sets to 13 pt., and if I select any other text size, it will not change; it just stubbornly remains at 13 pt.
(This is new text in a new document, in a new project, with no style applied.)
I’ll just keep putting questions here in the hope that somebody might have answers.
Why, when pasting text from another app, does the first line of a paragraph indent? I can see no marker or function for an indent, but there it is. It cannot be removed except by backspacing, which collapses it into the previous paragraph, and then hitting return, which sometimes - not always - puts it into a new paragraph without an indent. It’s very mystical, this software, and I am currently considering asking for a refund because I’ve spent two days now trying to get it to do very basic things, and nothing has been straightforward.
Also why - even when pasting using ‘paste and match style’ does pasted text set to 10pt, when the document default is 11pt? Literally different font sizes in different paragraphs with no difference in any setting for the two paragraphs? It’s another mystery!
Have you gone through the Interactive Tutorial yet? It’s in the Help menu (at least on the Mac, not sure about Windows). It will guide you through the basics and should help with some of your issues.
If you’ve setup one document to your requirement, then you can click on File > Options > Editing > Formatting, and the button Use Formatting in Current Editor, to set formatting for all projects.
You can also select Format > Make Formatting Default.
For a single project you can set formatting through Project > Project Settings > Formatting…
