I dropped a large file in the document bookmarks. If I click on it, Scrivener hangs. Finally it loads, but if I click on it again to delete it, Scrivener hangs on it again. Is there another way to remove this file from the document bookmarks?
In Project or Document Bookmarks, highlight the bookmark you want to remove and click the minus sign in the Inspector Bookmark header to delete the bookmark.
Good solution! Since bookmarks are static paths to files, renaming or moving the file will break the link. Usually this is something to try and avoid, but in this case it fixes the problem.
It does however try to preview it, if it is of a file format that can be shown. And if that file is corrupt, or uses tech our basic viewer is incapable of understanding, it can in theory cause a hang. Just like a bad JPG might break the text editor or compiler, when trying to process past it.
Yes, that was the problem. Clicking the file name in the inspector makes it load in that preview which hung Scrivener because it was so big. It starts trying to load the contents in preview, before you can right click to delete. The file was a txt.
Perhaps pull a smaller file to bookmarks. Click on the larger file, then quickly on the smaller. It’ll move on to preview the last selection. Then delete both, getting rid of the larger (deviant) bookmark that way.
