Document running headers and footers - How to add

How do I add a header and footer that runs throughout the document?

Double-click the Compile Format you’re using in the left column of the Compile Overview window, via the Page Settings menu on the left column, you’ll find a Headers and Footers Section.

Use Placeholders in the Textboxes to insert running headers and pagenumbers.

To find the correct Placeholders, check the Placeholders document in the Help menu for details.

Hope this helps

Yes it does! Many thanks.

Hi! I’m very new to scrivener and I’m trying to download a short story (currently a scrivening in my binder) as a pdf with a header. The header needs to have the name of my story and the word count on every page but no page numbers. I have googled around and figured out everything except how to add this header. I know I need to start by clicking file/compile but I can’t see where to go from there. My version is 3.4 on OS. Thank you so much in advance!strong text****strong text

Hi

The header you set in the compile format.
You need to double-click the compile format you use (list on the left of the compile panel).

For the wordcount, that’s another story.
There is a placeholder for that, but I don’t know if it would work in the Header/Footer. [⮘ It does, I just tested it.]
This said, if you want the wordcount per page, I really don’t think that that can be done automatically.
What I would do is set a place for it in the header/footer, something like [xxxxxxx words].
Then I would compile to RTF instead.
I would open that RTF in a third party editor, check the wordcount per page and enter it manually [265 words].
Then convert to PDF.

Here are the statistics placeholders:

The complete list of placeholders is accessible via the Help menu.
