Grammarly no longers supports its desktop version, it’s all web-based now. I don’t have time to copy/paste when I’m writing. I write and edit simultaneously.
Does anyone know if these two are still compatible with each other?
I haven’t used Grammarly in quite a while—I prefer ProWritingAid and find Grammarly’s focus on AI icky—but there’s nothing on the website that indicates Grammarly doesn’t support the desktop version anymore: Grammarly for Your Desktop | Grammarly. What makes you think that? Perhaps you need to run an update?
I don’t believe this is the case at all? I have it installed, it’s still offered as a product on their web site to download, and it still works perfectly with Scrivener.
I have an annual subscription that still works. It’s grown into a 3 dimensional utility, 2 of which are in production and one component still in Beta.
I have an annual subscription that still works…
I think that is the key. If you have the ‘free’ version you have to paste text into a small window. Subscribe to the “Pro” version and it behaves pretty much as you describe.
Thanks for the reply ~ I’ve had the pro version of Grammarly for years, and I’m running Sequoia 15.5, so it’s not that.
I’ve used the desktop version for so long, but then was busy publishing my latest book, so things had changed. It’s all running fine now. Thanks for your thoughts.
I don’t like the PWA tries to rewrite too much, and doesn’t focus on what I’ve written, it tries to make my style sound too generic. I suppose we all have our preferences. I’m not looking for something to write for me, and I find Grammarly to limit itself to the level of my tastes
You can turn off Rephrase and Sparks (the AI tool) in ProWritingAid so that it sticks to more of a basic editing mode, but any grammar suggestions can of course affect your style.
