I cannot remember what I designated the administrator’s name and password to be back when I bought the program six months ago. I would like to install the updated program. How can I figure it out? I have tried all the common ones I use, but no dice.
I’m not sure what you mean. If you need your serial number and user name, you visit our support page to find out how to retrieve it. However, it sounds as though you are talking about your computer’s administrator’s user name and password, which has nothing to do with Scrivener. In that case, I’m not sure how you would retrieve it.
All the best,
Keith
I’m an idiot - the lock image had the Scrivener logo over it, so I supposed it was Scrivener.
I did type in the admin name and password, and it said this:
Scrivener does not have permission to write to the application’s directory! Are you running off a disk image? If not, ask your system administrator for help.
I’m not sure what a disk image is. I am working at home. My husband, kid and I all have different partions. He is the “system administrator” for what it’s worth. And I’m working on my side of the computer.
PS. I love Scrivener. I’m nearly done with my new novel on it, and it’s so much easier than writing with Word.
A disk image is the sort of file that Scrivener uses for installation (DMG). It is a virtual disk - many OS X apps use such a file. To install any program on OS X, you need to enter the administrator’s password. So you will need to get your husband to enter the administrator details of the machine in order for the installation to be accepted when you drag Scrivener from off the disk image (the corkboard window with the three icons) into the Applications folder.
All the best,
Keith
