Correct me if I’m wrong, but it doesn’t seem to be possible to drag and drop text in the editor–either to someone else in the same document, or to anywhere else in Scrivener. If true, I find this surprising as this, I would think, would be quite a common requirement for writers.
Hm, I’m able to do this within the editor splits:
- Select the text
- Click and hold
- Drag to elsewhere in the editor or in the split editor
That moves; to copy, click and drag, then hold the Control key before dropping.
This works dragging and dropping text into/out of the notes pane as well; it doesn’t work in synopses as you have to select that as a text field.
Does that work for you, or are you still having trouble? I’m running XP sp3 (in a VM, to boot), so it’s possible different versions of Windows might affect the command, but let me know how you get on.
MM, thanks for this. I’m using W7, but having no luck: Drag and drop works as you describe, which is the standard within all Windows versions, in other applications, and in moving items around in the outline and corkboard windows, but not in the editor, either in one pane or across split panes. Instead the mouse turns to a ‘no-entry’ sign indicating that function is not available. I’m using #SCRIVWIN:0.2.1#.
Thanks anyway!
Ah, hm. Sounds buggy then somehow, but I’ll try and install on a Win7 machine later and see if I can get anything. Meanwhile you might report it in the final beta thread in the Bug Hunt forum with the details of what you’re doing and your OS so that Lee can be sure see it.
