Easily distracted Binder request or is this possible

Hello. Im really getting into my groove with Scrivener so thank you. Anyway. I wish and i think this is not possible.
I cannot move top binder to trash nor hide it.
Nor can i trash “research” or hide it.
Nor can i hide trash.

I know it seems like with this stuff there is always a reason or “you can just do this” But I wish i had full control of Binder. i.e. allow me to hide some MUST HAVE folders or allow me to just build it from scratch on my own.Right now my work around is bury all folders into the top folder and have my own structure in a different folder (where my focus is for the day or currently) but no matter what i have to see research, trash, and top folder. It feels like an autistic glitch of mine and that mayy not be the right words but its a mental thing. IS there any way to do what i am wishing for? thanks

No, you cannot delete those folders as they are fundamental to the operation of Scrivener.

  • Everything that is going to be compiled must be in the Draft/Manuscript folder. The only exceptions are Front matter (title page, dedications, etc.) and Back matter (other sorts of blurb), which can be outside the Draft folder, but must be allocated in the Compile dialog. The Draft folder can only hold text documents,
  • The Research folder can have other types of file to support the draft being written (Images, PDF documents, spreadsheets, etc.).
  • The Trash folder is where any of the files in your project which you decide to delete are put. They remain there until you actively delete them from there or empty the trash. This is a fail-safe so that they can be recovered if you change your mind, or if you have deleted one/some by accident (believe me, that has happened to users!).

You can create folders and files at the same binder-level as those three, but they will not be available to Compile, apart from Front matter and Back matter as explained.

If you find those three essential folders distracting, I suggest you explore Full screen or Composition mode or simply try hiding the Binder until you need to access it.

Mark.

Besides hiding the Binder completely, you can use View → Outline → Hoist Binder to hide everything except the current group.

As noted, the three fundamental folders – Draft, Research, and Trash – cannot be deleted. (And if you somehow managed to delete them, it would probably corrupt the project.)

Note that you can rename these folders, so if don’t need a folder called Research, name it to whatever you like.

Thanks @JimRac Yeah I noticed that. But I cant put that folder into another one. I appreciate all the comments. I have been able to make the three must haves work for me. Using Icons and treating them as their own folders. @kewms I like this hoist binder! Thank you. I’m going to see if i can create my own keyboard shortcut to do that instead of having to menu navigate.
@xiamenese Thank you for the explanation and why they are must haves. The compiling the deletes, etc once again forum you rock thank you. :folded_hands:
