eBook Creator (aka eBook Design Studio)

Found this advertised on Reddit. Mac-only. No website listed on Mac App Store; support link opens a form on jotform.

eBook Creator

Couldn’t highlight-copy-paste from App store, so here’s a tidbit:

(there’s a lot more in the description than that.

I downloaded it (it’s free) and it looks interesting. I may play around with it this week.

PS: It has the annoying habit of requesting a Mac App Store review a little too often.

Hmm. Yet another Markdown → ePub “professional” solution.

  • I guess it’s changed its name; the text on the Mac App Store refers to “Book Design Studio”, not “eBook Creator”
  • It’s apparently at version 26.0.5,
  • Yet "This app hasn’t received enough ratings or reviews to display an overview.
  • The one review is not helpful.

I don’t need it, but it doesn’t inspire confidence.

I haven’t looked at this at all, so don’t mind me if I’m way off here, but if you want a Markdown to ePub route, just install Pandoc, restart Scrivener, and check out the expanded Compile For dropdown in the compile overview window.

Granted, it’s not going to hold your hand much, which is where maybe this is different, it expects you to know your stuff, but it will automate the cover page, ToC and metadata aspects. The CSS is up to you (as part of the Format).

I was about to say this.

I’m guessing the “26” comes from 2026 (like Mac OS “26”) and the 0.5 is the honest part (it hasn’t reached version 1 yet. )

Me, I just shared this ‘cos I find things that might be of use (whether they actually are, however…. :open_mouth: )

Hmm. If this really is an early release, to me using 26 (as in new MacOS nomenclature) is misleading, as it suggests a long history of updates and bug fixes, which is not confidence building.

But I can’t think I’ll ever need it, so it’s a moot point.

I did some digging out of curiosity.

The company is Indigogo Ltd, a one man shop. If you look at his other applications, he seems to be quite involved with Logic Pro. The website is: https://indigogo.io Note that the site was created to launch something that did not materialise (I suspect Logic Pro related app).

What comes to the version, he has changed it from traditional vx.x to vyy.xx format - most common reason for that with new software is to make it look more impressive. Version 1.0 was released last year so 26.xx are point releases (bug fixes etc.)

To me it looks he is either enthusiast, trying to build a portfolio or trying to find an app that he can monetise. Lacking in marketing, and probably strong involvement or reputation in correct circles, his apps haven’t got traction.

In any case, I don’t see anything suspicious in it.

I can draw all over his website:

I didn’t do anything except move my cursor around.

I tried to draw a smiley face but couldn’t figure out how.

Yep, I thought if anyone bothers to check the site will have an interesting surprise so I kept quite about that “feature”.

I blew your cover, oops. :see_no_evil_monkey:

Like this (excuse my lack of drawing skills):

Did you notice the trick? (You can see what it does in your screenshot.)
