Can I edit the image to make it fancy, such as adding a border radius or a box shadow?
Hi aithal. No, Scrivener doesn’t have those image editing abilities. It’s not designed to handle those sorts of tasks.
If you edit your images in a tool designed for that task, you can then import those versions into your project. Or, better still, replace them in the output file after compiling your work.
I think some users will work with both photo editing tools and page-layout programs like Adobe InDesign or Affinity Publisher so they can flow text around and over their images. Scrivener isn’t designed for any of those tasks.
I understand. However, I feel that it would be highly convenient to right-click an image and select “edit it in {your tool preference from settings}”
If you’re using the Insert > Image Linked to File command (instead of Insert > Image from File), Scrivener will place a thumbnail version of the image in the project, rather than importing the image into the project.
You can then edit those images on the hard drive using your preferred tools. When you compile the project, Scrivener will replace the thumbnail version with the actual edited version from your files.
The “Linked to File” option has the added benefit of keeping the project’s file size smaller than if the images are imported into the project.
The drawback is that those links are specific to the computer that built them. If you’re syncing projects between machines, the thumbnails likely won’t appear correctly on other computers.
