This is either a bug report or a suggestion: I am unable to enter carriage returns in document synopses in index cards on the corkboard, but can do so in the inspector. I don’t recall this anomaly in 1.x. Whether a bug or not, it would be nice to be able to enter at least the simplest possible list (i.e., items separated by carriage returns, no need for numbers or bullets) on an index card in any view, especially the corkboard. Otherwise I’m delighted with the upgrade
p.s. running under 10.6.4 on a MacBook Pro.
You couldn’t do this in 1.x. Well, you could, but you had to hold down the Option key to enter returns, as you can now. So the default behaviour here hasn’t changed at all, and it’s certainly not a bug seeing as this is standard behaviour for controls.
However, Scrivener 2.0 has an option for this - see the “Return Behaviour” options in the Navigation preferences. By default return ends editing, because frankly I find the behaviour of return actually creating returns in a control such as the corkboard annoying and unintuitive, but at least it’s now there for those that want it.
All the best,
Keith
Hi Keith,
Thanks for the quick response. I admit I haven’t used Scrivener for a while, though when I did I used it intensively - such is the nature of writing - so perhaps I once figured out the Option key trick. I don’t feel a need to make the more general change in preferences. Sorry for requesting something “annoying and unintuitive”, but then I have never thought of the corkboard as a control, just as a … er … corkboard
Oh, no, I didn’t mean it was - objectively - “awkward and unintuitive”; clearly not, as lots of people have asked for it, which is why there’s now a preference for it! I just meant that I personally find the action of having returns actually entered, rather than ending editing, awkward and intuitive, because of my own expectations. But the checkbox is there for those who find my preference awkward!
All the best,
Keith
