I recently started getting an error message (full text after msg) about auto-update not configured and needing to update Sparkle. I believe I’m running the latest version of Scrivener (3.2.3 14869) on a new (M1 chip) Macbook Pro.
Is there anything I can do to fix this (e.g. replace Sparkle in the Scrivener package), or do I need an update? Thanks!

“Auto-update not configured

Never seen that but then I a) have never installed Sparkle on any of my Macs — having looked at their web site no intention of ever doing so, and b) simply let Scrivener do its thing with updates.
I looked into the Scrivener app package, and it does have Sparkle inside (hence my question about replacing it). I’m hesitant to do so because the Sparkle web site seems to be entirely aimed at developers, not end users.
You could try to quit Scrivener, download and install a fresh copy over it and see if the update mechanism is still broken or not. If that doesn’t fix the problem, I doubt any modifications inside the app’s package will do any good.
Is there anything running on your computer that could get in the way, a third-party firewall, antivirus software, or maybe just a VPN?
Well right now my copy of Scrivener is up-to-date but when I last had to update it everything worked as excepted. If Scrivener relies on Sparkle then sure I have it installed but only because Scrivener included it. I have not downloaded and installed Sparkle myself.
Of course not, it comes with many apps. Unless you exclusively run software installed via the Apple App Store (including the App Store version of Scrivener). If I remember correctly, they don’t even allow mechanisms like Sparkle there, but it would be redundant anyways, since the Store handles the Updates.
