C:\Program Files (x86)\Scrivener\QtCore4.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support. Error Status 0xc0000020
I’d never gotten the message before. I reinstalled and things worked okay… until today. Now I get the same error message, but when I tried to reinstall, it didn’t fix the problem.
I can’t open any files. None. The program won’t even start.
Has anyone else had this problem and how did you correct it?
This looks like a problem with McAfee security software, blocking the libraries used by Scrivener – we’ve seen quite a few customers experiencing this recently.
First, exclude Scrivener.exe from McAfee’s scan, along with all of the DLL files in the installation directory. McAfee doesn’t offer any way of doing this in a block, so you need to exclude each file from the scan individually. McAfee’s instructions for doing this are here: service.mcafee.com/webcenter/po … d=TS102056.
When you have done that, uninstall Scrivener via the Windows Control Panel. Boot into safe mode with networking, then reinstall Scrivener from a fresh download. Reboot as normal, and Scrivener should work as expected.
It worked! I went ahead and backed up my project from the directory before uninstalling Scrivener. After rebooting and reinstalling, I accessed the saved project, and it all came back up. It appears I was able to recover everything. Thanks for having the info here so I didn’t have to wait for someone to respond to my email…not sure my heart could have taken the stress
