Europe's Last Summer...

A fun little book on the various threads (political, cultural, personal) leading up to August 1914. We find that Archduke Ferdinand was pro-Serb, and when he was assassinated the A-H Emperor was relieved. The author argues that there were two separate wars, the Austro-Serbian, and the German-Russian war that became WWI. It comes down to two men…one of whom was fired for what he did.

Probably one of the better history books I’ve read in several years…starts by discussing broad strokes of culture and bias, then narrows down to individuals. Then to events and how the individuals manipulated them.
