Eyes have gone and can't import a theme

I haven’t used Scrivener since before Covid and I can’t read anything anymore. I have some slight vision impairment, in addition to just old age, and sit about 3 feet from my big monitor.

I downloaded the midnight theme I found here and is supposed to be more accessible, but I can’t import it because it’s grayed out.

When I’m in the editor, my ruler goes from -5 to 13, leaving my 7-1/2" writing area a narrow strip down the middle and I can’t figure out how to change it.

Sigh. Scrivener seems to be for young people with good eyesight and searching here I haven’t found any easily digestible information for how configure it for me. I’m very good navigating computer, I did a lot professionally, but still I’m lost.

Is there something(s) simple I’m missing? Probably, but my eyes are already shot trying to switch between interface, forum and user manual not any closer than when I started.

I know Scrivener has been terrific satisfying demands for the writing and compiling process so maybe it’s too much to ask for accessibility on top of it, but there must be some way to tweak it to make it useable. that I just can’t figure out.

Any help most gratefully appreciated. Finally have ideas and want to write again and can’t figure out how, waaaah! TIA.

I don’t know the theme you mentioned, but aside from that, there are two main areas that are likely helpful.

First is the “Zoom” feature (located in the Editor status bar, bottom left):

Second are the Editor settings:

You could increase the width, or uncheck “Use fixed width editor” (so it takes up the whole available space) and / or play with the editor margins below that.

What you want is probably buried there, but you have to experiment with all settings to see what combination works best for you.

I generally aim for a “perfect” (for me) line length at a font size of 12 or 13 pt and then only zoom to a comfortable size.

Here is an example of 200% zoom

Use the Option/Settings Panel under Appearance > General Interface look at GUI Font for Menu Font size. Adjust to give your eyes a rest.

This sounds like a (Scrivener for) Windows feature, though. Not at a computer right now to check.

Yes would be in the Settings with same headers to get there.

Nope.
Scrivener 3.4 (16639) on macOS 15.4 (24E248):

Some of MacOS’s built-in Accessibility & Appearance features can also tangibly effect working in Scrivener and may help you.
