Hi everyone! I’m a new user and just had the tutorial. I’m using the Fiction Novel Template, and I want to change the formatting on new scenes throughout my document. I already used the following to try and change/update the current text and formatting
I don’t know why none of these will change my default formatting. I’m trying to change the default font to Garamond, new space after paragraph, and justify. That’s it.
I’ve selected all Projects in the Manuscript, deselected, and I’m stymied.
I also need to mention that the first method doesn’t allow me to change anything - I’m in the formatting window and can’t click on the font or the justification unless I click “use different formatting for new documents […]”
I also need to mention that I have the file saved in a one drive folder so I can use Scrivener on both my desktop and laptop.
Your options 1 and 2 are optional, dependant on whether you want the change to apply to all projects or the current project only.
Do this. Setup a document with the format you require. Then it’s File > Options > Editing > Formatting and click on the button Use Formatting in Current Editor, which some might interpret to mean Apply Formatting to Current Document and end up scratching their head.
All newly created documents will take on the formatting of the document you edited according to your needs.
Once done, then select the old documents you want to change and use Documents > Convert > Text to Default Formatting and consider the menu options on offer before confirming.
First do not have your unzipped Project folder on One Drive. You can have sync issues which can ruin the project. If you want have your zipped backups saved on one drive and when switch locations delete the current project folder and replace by unzipping the project backup you saved to one drive.
Second set up a single document with the font, size, line spacing, and alignment that you want. Then open project settings or preferences (options as on windows for me).
and after set up Image 1 as you want then look and follow the images below and will do this for every NEW document going forward. Use the Documents > Convert > Text to Default Formatting.
I have an article on Project Templates as well on my web site so you can create your own custom Project Template formatted the way you want. Blog 1 — My Writing Journey
