First Blank Pages?

Hello!

I am using Scrivener to go straight to a print-on-demand! Do I need to add empty pages in the start of my manuscript so the printer can add their front matter information etc.? I was curious because I heard someone say you need to add a few blank pages at the start of your document for things to come out right?

You don’t need blank pages. Look up front matter in the manual.

I don’t think that was the question @drmajorbob .
It ain’t about the “how”, but rather about the “if”.
That is a question you should ask the printing company.
Some may need, some may not. I guess. And what about “how many”?

If it’s the printer’s front matter, surely they’ll provide it … and they wouldn’t do it by printing on blank pages you provide. How could that even work?? They print ALL the pages, after all … all of them blank until they print.

This. The printer should have a detailed spec sheet that includes all this information.

Generally speaking, I would expect a print-on-demand company to use author-supplied front matter. It’s your book, how are they supposed to know what should go there?

Exactly. They put a document together and print it, same as we’d do at home … just bigger and faster.

So should I have a dedicated front matter page in my book? Where in the book should it be and how long?

Front matter, by definition, goes at the front, before the main content.

Typical front matter items include a title page, a copyright page, a table of contents, maybe a dedication page, and so on.

What front matter you “should” have depends on you, and to a certain extent the type of book. No one here can tell you.

I see! I just asked because in most books, there tends to be a long detailed page of publishing information, copyright information and book information. I wasn’t sure if that was something I needed to make myself or not,

As was said or implied earlier, if the printing company needs a dedicated space for their own infos, that is something only they can tell you.

Although I would expect them to just insert whatever space they need themselves…

Again, where is the printing company going to get this information, if not from you?

Yes! I just wrote my copyright page so all is good! Thank you
