- Having trouble using compile to Word on MAC OS Big Sur. The scrivener doc compiles in Word, but almost all of what shows up in Word is chapter numbers, only about three chapters actually have my text.
- Assuming I can get the whole file to compile, can I edit in word and send back into Scrivener with my edits appearing there?
Hello quil, and welcome to the forum.
It sounds as though the documents in your Binder may not all have been assigned the correct section type, which you can do via Project > Project Settings. There, you’ll want to review both the Section Types and Default Types by Structure tabs to see what section types the missing material uses.
You’ll also want to review the Section Layouts you assigned in the Compile panel when you clicked the Assign Section Layouts button. You’ll want to use chapter and scene types that include headers and text if that’s how your Binder is structured.
We have a 4-part video series titled “Getting Your Work Out” on the Mac tutorial videos page. Those videos demonstrate using the built-in compile formats as well as show the customization process. Seeing them might be helpful.
For your second question: Yes, you can import edited material back into Scrivener. However, Scrivener will not be able to import edits that are made when using Word’s “Track Changes” tools (although it can import comments).
You may find this post by a few other users offering tips on importing edited material helpful.
Thank you very much. Responsive!! I’ll work with your advice and see what I can do. Patrick
