Font and Formatting issues when using Block Quotes

I’m running into three problems when I use Block Quotes in Windows version of Scrivener 3.1.5.1:

NOTE: the problems below all disappear if i Compile with Default Settings as opposed to Compiling with Manuscript(Times). Would still appreciate an explanation as to what causes things to break/get overwritten so I can customize my approach going forward.

  1. I’ve tried setting the style of the block quote to use Arial or Garamond font instead of Times New Roman (used for rest of novel), and this is ignored in both when compiling for PDF and for Print even though it says Font: Determined by Section layout in the Compile window.
  2. Although the block quote itself is indenting properly, if used with a single paragraph, when used on more than one paragraph in a row, the first line of all paragraphs save the first are indented an additional half itch from the rest (whereas the whole paragraph should simply be indented .5 inches)
  3. The first normally styled paragraph after the block quotes loses its standard .5" indent for the first line and is flush left.
NOTE - all of these happen even if I select the set of paragraphs in the area and choose Format>Protect (still get messed up indentations and font from quotes doesn’t come over)

Ad1: Set the correct font in the Styles pane in the Compile Format Designer, not in the Editor Style.

Ad2: Set the indenting for the Compile Style Blockquote to the correct indent using the top and bottom marker of the Ruler in the Styles pane in the Compile Format Designer.

Ad3: Paragraphs should not use “normal” Styles, but Default Formatting. Remove Normal Styles from the text and apply File > Edit > Formatting to set the “No-style” Formatting, select all documents in the Binder and choose Document > Convert > Convert text To Default Formatting. The indent after empty lines should be flush left, like the first after headings or Blockquotes.
