To be honest, this may indeed be problematic. I will look into it, but basically, for the footnotes and annotations I am having to generate my own RTF code, which is very limited. So if the Japanese characters are reling on lots of RTF or Unicode tags, chances are they will get lost. Although I will look at it, there may be little I can do, as there is no way I can write a complete RTF parser for this. If you could send me an example of sentence that would not export properly as a footnote, that would help me test it. Thanks.
