Apologies if this question has been answered before. I trawled the forums for half an hour and couldn’t find anything, in my defense.
I am running version 1.7.3 on a Windows PC, and compiling a document with substantial footnotes. No matter what I seem to do to the formatting of the text or footnote text (both of which I am having no trouble changing), I can’t seem to change the formatting of the footnote numbers (either those that appear in the body, or those that appear in the footnotes themselves). Invariably, these appear in Courier New, size 12. This is true whether I change the compile settings myself, manually, or if I use the preset Times New Roman setting.
All this wouldn’t be that much of a problem, if it weren’t for the fact that I can’t figure out how to change the formatting of all footnote numbers at once, in MS Word or Open Office.
Thanks for any help, have been driving myself crazy.
This is a bug we’re investigating. Meanwhile, you can change the font in Word by applying a style to the footnote references. There’s a default style called “footnote references”, though it may be hidden if you’re showing only recommended styles. You could also just create a new style or apply any other existing style you liked. I expect something similar exists in OpenOffice.
Here are the steps for applying the default Footnote Reference style in Word 2010; I think the process is almost identical in 2013: Choose “Apply Styles” from the style gallery menu, then click the double A button to open the Styles list and choose “Options”. In the Style Pane Options, select to show “All Styles” and click OK. You should then be able to scroll in the Styles list and select the “Footnote Reference” style. In your document, select one of the footnote references, right-click and choose Styles > Select Text With Similar Formatting to select all the footnote references in your document. From the Apply Styles menu, click “Apply” to format them with the Footnote References style.
