Footnotes when compiling to MS Word

When compiling a Scrivener document to MS Word, the footnotes are created in a strange way. They are not compiled as footnotes as you would enter them when using the footnote button (not sure how to refer to it) in MS Word, which create a footnote that will automatically change its number if you cut and past it to another part of the document. Rather, they are just compiled as if manually entered, meaning that if I try to add a new footnote within the Word document, the compiled footnotes will not automatically readjust and I have to enter them all in again using the footnote button in Word. For my writing (history), there are many footnotes so this has a big effect on productivity, and makes it difficult to use Scrivener.
Thanks for this great software!
