I have been finalizing a book which has a number of footnotes and noticed a couple of odd things.
First, some of my footnotes contain URLs which I want to be active links. However, then I first entered these (I was using “footnote” not “inline footnote”) some of the URLs were not highlighted as links in the inspector. Some were, I don’t know why there was a difference. On some of these, when I selected the URL text in the inspector and right clicked, I saw “format as link” as an option and that worked. However, on some of them, this option was not available. I have no idea why. Any ideas?
Also, not understanding the details of footnotes originally, my highlighting of the footnote references was inconsistent and so the placement of the footnote indicator was not what I wanted. I found how to fix this, but then discovered another problem, which is what I would call a bug but others might say I just did things wrong.
Here’s the problem: If the footnote text in the inspector has a return at the end of the text, that return gets placed in the ePub output resulting in a paragraph where there was not one in the text. I often had these in my footnotes just because my habit was to type the footnote, and when done hit return which placed a return as the last item in the footnote text in the inspector. Doesn’t seem like this should result in the return being place after the footnote marker in the compile ePub.
