I have set the format I want for “no style” in the settings, format section. I see there also that I can set the font for the notes section (the one on the right of the text, not the notes below the text chapters in the binder). But, I don’t seem to be able to set any other formatting for this notes section. For example, the notes section seems to have a default spacing of 1.2 and no indentation (my “no style” formatting is 1.0 spacing and .25 indentation). When I highlight text in this notes section and hit “no style” it goes to the 1.2 spacing and no indentation rather than my “no style” formatting of 1.0 spacking and .25 indentation).
I often cut, copy, and paste text from the notes at the bottom of the binder to the notes to the right of each text area (chapter) and to the text itself, and I would prefer not to have to redo the formatting every time I do this.
So, is there a way to make the “no style” formatting apply to the notes to the right of the text? (again, not just the font, which I can do, but the other formatting stuff like spacing and indents).
The default formatting used for notes in the Notes container (below the Synopsis container) is set by the “Notes font:” option in Settings ▸ Editing ▸ Formatting. Since this is the default, it is considered No Style.
If you set the font there, you’ll be limited to adjusting only the font itself. However, within the Notes container, you can make additional limited adjustments, such as line spacing, by selecting the text and using the format toolbar.
To customize it further, you can also apply the formatting from other text. Select a section of your main text with your preferred settings (e.g., 1.0 spacing with a .25 indent), go to Format ▸ Copy Format, then select the text in the Notes container and go to Format ▸ Paste Format.
Alternatively, to create a style based on your global formatting, select a paragraph of text in your main editor, open the Styles tool beside “No Style” and choose Show Style Panel from the dropdown menu. In the Style panel, click the “+” icon at the bottom. In the New Style menu that appears, name your style, ensure “Save all formatting” is selected, then click OK.
Afterward, you can select text in any Notes container and apply your new style through the Styles tool in the toolbar.
