Full-Screen Scrollbar Glitch

Hello all,

Since updating to Snow Leopard recently, I’ve had issues with the scrollbars in Compose mode. Specifically, a strange pair of “docking zones” have appeared for either end of the scrollbar. See this image for a screenshot.

Anyone else had this problem, or know how to fix it? Really disturbs my fullscreen zen.

Very strange - I’ve never seen that before. What happens if you switch to a different scroller type in the Compose preferences?

Let’s see…

“Regular scroller” and “Standard fullscreen scroller” both produce what I assume are the correct results (the ordinary OS X scroller and a greyscale version of the ordinary OS X scroller, respectively).

“Autohiding scroller” produces no scroller at all. “Minimalist scroller” is the same as the screenshot above, even after switching and then switching back. “No scroller” also produces no scroller.

“Autohiding scroller” should provide a scroller that is invisible until you mouse over it (and only when there is enough text to show a scroller).

Do you have any hidden scroller settings set, such as showing arrows at the top and bottom or suchlike? OS X has some hidden settings for this sort of thing, and I wonder if you have some turned on?

All the best,
Keith

Ah, was unaware of how “autohiding scroller” works. Just tested that, and it works exactly as you described.

I do have the DoubleArrow scroller setting enabled. I’ve tried turning it off and relaunching Scrivener. This changes Scrivener’s other scrollbars exactly as expected, but the problem described in the first post remains.

Just curious, any update on this? It’s not a dealbreaker, but it is puzzling.

Sorry, I forgot to update you on this. Yes, I have fixed this for the next update - it was caused by the code leaving the default scrollers to do some drawing, assuming Lion behaviour where no arrows get drawn at the top and bottom. So, just use a different scroller type until the next beta/update, and then you can switch to your preferred type again and the glitch will be gone.

All the best,
Keith

Awesome, thanks for the quick reply. As always with Scrivener, I’m left a happy camper.

Sorry to revive a dead topic, but I’ve updated to the latest beta, which I think included this fix (“Fixed bug in minimalist scrollers in Compose mode whereby on systems earlier than Lion, the old grey arrows would get drawn at the top and bottom.”).

Unfortunately, while the grey arrows are gone, so are the scrollbars. With both the Minimalist Scroller and the Auto-Hiding Scroller, the scrollbars are entirely invisible. Screenshot here. This occurs even if I reset all preferences to default and restart Scrivener. Running Scrivener 2.3.5 (21334). Snow Leopard OS X 10.6.8.
