This case goes a bit in the direction you’d expect (man with “issues” + “A.I.” making it worse), but the how is absolutely mind-boggling! After a few minutes I was certain it let him build a rocket to launch himself into space (that didn’t happen).

I’m not an expert, obviously, but it sounds like this fella’s problems started years before he got into Gemini.
I think it would help if we stopped calling this stuff AI. If it really was intelligent, then it would have stopped engaging with him.

The beginning and end were predictable, but man, this elaborate 007-esque scavenger hunt on the way from dumb to dead… didn’t see that one coming! Did you?

AI is better thought of as a field of study. The way the term is being used so broadly really does make it meaningless – and I would suggest, helps the tech bros with their obfuscation and misdirection.
AI as a field is certainly not stupid, and nor are LLMs: they are doing exactly what the were built to do. A large part of the problem is perception: people are unquestioningly and uncritically believing the marketing. I prefer to use ignorance rather than stupidity, and people are choosing to remain ignorant about the tools they are using (amongst other things).
Recall that marketing is an extension of PR, which is term coined by Bernays because the word propaganda was becoming a pejorative: it is not your friend. It’s well-worth reading about Bernays – a nephew of Freud – or more entertainingly watch Adam Curtis’s The Century of the Self. If you are already asking your Claude or Gemini about Bernays, then you are already lost.
I was joking. AI is just a tool. “But a fool with a tool is still a fool.” 
I saw it years ago, along with several of his other documentaries, they were all excellent.
Well, locally we call an irritating fool a tool—which has the same connotation as jackass.
