Getting my project loaded

I am trying to create my first project and I am in my files but it won’t load my file. WHY?

Could you run us through what you are doing to get to this point, with as much detail as possible? It is unclear what you are trying to do, and made more so by how the two actions you described as being combined that don’t normally do anything together. Making a new project has nothing to do with loading a file.

As general advice though, if you’ve been working through the interactive tutorial, note the section named “Get Going”, which starts off with instructions on how to create a new project. This is of course also covered in the user manual PDF, in §5.1.1, Creating a New Project.

I opwn hw project templates and go to the Blank template and hit create. My document folder opens and I try to load a file folder and it shows me in the new download folder named : File Name and i click on the folder I want to upload and it does not load it. It does not allow me to try and upload single word doc files.

Yes, that dialogue box is asking where you would like to save the project you are creating. It does things the other way around from simple document editors, where you can start typing into an empty window, and then choose to save, because a project has too much stuff going on to be held in memory. It needs to establish files on the disk before it can even open the window.

So choose a folder to put your project in, give it a name, and then commit the dialogue. Once that has done, you should see the standard project window interface, and you can now drag and drop .docx files into the sidebar to import them, etc.

Though for a first time migration, you might want to select Draft, and then use the File ▸ Import ▸ Import and Split... menu command. This can cut the document up by headings, if it has them, or by markers that you type in, like having it split every time the word “Chapter” is encountered.

It is not working for me and I dont know how to make it work.

No. When create new project you are asked where to place your project folder. EACH project has a project folder and you must decide where to put it. My project folders are inside a folder I made called Scrivener Projects. I place a new project folder inside this . When you create the project a project folder will be created for it as well. When you backup the project you can save a backup (usually a zip copy in a DIFFERENT folder) when you backup both the project folder is updated and a seperate backup file as well.
The project folder holds all the project info in it with a large number of files. When you want to open a project you use the scrivx file in the project folder to do this.

It would be good to point out which numbered item, in the checklist of the user manual section I gave you, where it stops working, and then in as much detail as possible, what the result is versus what you expect or what the manual seems to be describing.

It’s almost impossible to provide help with “it doesn’t work”. For all we know your computer isn’t turned on yet. I don’t mean that sarcastically, there are just too many several million things you could describe with that phrase.
