Giant insertion point in Mac Sonoma update 3.3.2

For some it is too bright, too dark, too hot, too cold, too loud, too quiet to write… and for others the insertion point is too big.

Just write!

Scrivener 3.3.3 addresses the following issues from 3.3.2:
Fixed some issues with the size of the new text cursor on Sonoma.

Unfortunately, 3.3.3 doesn’t fix that particular issue, at least for me. The insertion point is still very thick and distracting.

I am a HUGE Scrivener fan. I even teach workshops to beginners. I will never stop using it, but boy this insertion point is a huge drawback. It’s not that it is too tall or wrong color…it is not some persnickety aesthetic complaint. It’s too fat. It literally is on top of the letters. It makes it difficult to read and really hard to drop in between letters. When you stare at your screen for hours every day, this is an actual problem even though it sounds super trivial. It’s a writing application and the cursor is that “rubber hits the road” (or pixels hit the screen?)salient past of the user interface.

This isn’t a three-little-bears-like complaint, it really is a productivity issue. I know it sounds stupid, but it is absolutely effecting the ability to just write. I am as surprised as anyone that it makes a difference.

As has been said multiple times now, this is not Scrivener’s cursor. It is the new macOS cursor, like it or hate it, that is what your Mac is now going to start looking like as more and more programs get fixed to use it.

If you do not like it to the degree that you will stop using Scrivener (!), then downgrade your Mac back to 13, and hang on to it as long as you can. Hopefully by the time you can’t use that anymore because your hardware breaks or Apple stops supporting it and nobody is making software for it anymore, they will have come to their senses and either made this optional for iOS users that think it’s neat, or they will hopefully add controls so developers can go back to making the cursor look how they think it should in their software.

Until then, asking us to change it is like asking us to change the spell check engine or how the title bar on the window works. Please send your feedback to Apple. They are not hearing you, here.

I am closing this thread for now. If you scrolled to this point looking to file a bug about the cursor, it’s probably best to start a new thread on it anyway, as the bug this thread was about has been resolved. Thanks!

I’ve just updated to 3.3.3 and now the insertion point is much wider than before. Is there a way to get it back to how it was before?
