Grateful for the good news

Sometimes projects take longer than expected. Complaining isn’t going to help. It’s not like they’re slacking off. They’re constantly working on fixing bugs. There are still lots of little bugs, so it might be a while until it’s released. That’s fine. It’s better than rushing something out.

In the meanwhile, the beta works pretty well and hasn’t had any serious issues. I’m a full-time writer and have been using the beta for work since 2902 back in December of 2017. I’ve never lost work, and have produced several novels in it in that time. The only minor annoyance was loss of epub2 (which I think they added back?) but that actually spurred me to find a better solution to compiling and now I have a python script that completely automates the process for me, saving me several hours per book.

So whether 2021 or 2022, everyone here has access to the free beta, which works well mostly, most of the time.

Nicely said… but just one question are you from the future? You said since 2902 back in December of 2017? I guess you travelled back in time from 2902 to December 2017? Do we have to assume that V3 for Windows has not been released in 2902 yet???

Version 2902, aka 2.9.0.2.

I bought Scrivener for Windows a year or so ago before I even knew there was a beta for a new version, and I get migraines a lot so when I came to the forums looking for how to change it to ‘dark mode’ and discovered the beta, I got it. Been using it ever since and really hoping it will finally be released, finished and ready. Written 12 books in it so far. 2 on Amazon right now and I have 2 new ones in the works I just started… (No, I haven’t made much money but honestly that doesn’t stop me from doing what I love.) And I worry all the time, what if something happens and they never release it? All this work is sitting here in Scrivener files… I hope they are close to releasing the official version. The word ‘release’ really got me going too.

@caenissnow, I think you can be quite confident that the Scrivener team are going to ‘finish it’.

Realize that they are in several locations, UK and Australia principally, others in North America etc… So everyone including you is protected.

You are further and always protected, in that your Scrivener files are in a completely open, long term, readable format within their project folders: RTF.

So if you couldn’t use the Scrivener app tomorrow, you could immediately go in with Word, Google Docs, or other open source equivalents, and once again use your work.

For the rest of the feelings that come up somehow, patience is indeed a virtue, not so?

Over three weeks now since RC5 was released. I think that’s a very positive indication of its maturity.

My birthday is in late June.
I think there is a good chance I’ll have bought Scrivener 3 for Windows by then.

Time will tell.

I use the Sync To Folder option. It also saves the files (in a format of your choosing; I pick rtf) in the folder structure of your binder, for much easier location and transplanting if necessary. It also lets me do some editing on the road, and syncs back into the project when I get back to my Scrivener computer.

I finally broke down and installed RC –

I had not really looked at the earlier beta versions since I did not want to get my hopes up.

But I am so happy to see things that I had needed (snapshot compares, revision mode…)

So looking forward to v3 !!! And I (being hopeful) wish it will be released in 2020 !!
