Grey Box Around Footnotes

This has been bothering me an entirely unreasonable amount.

Basically I wanted to make footnotes just have an underline, rather than the gray highlight that they have by default. So going into options I changed the background colour for them to white. This however leaves the box surrounding the footnote, which I can’t seem to get rid of.

Really minor, but somewhat irritating me (particularly as Im using footnotes for citations). Im guessing it’s a setting in the preferences somewhere that I have yet to find.

Could anyone point me in the right direction?

Uploaded a screengrab here, as my explanation may not have made any sense  : http://cl.ly/JATO

There is no way to remove the distinction between comment and footnote style links and hyperlinks. You might try Project/Text Preferences..., and set the “Use footnote marker” option. This places a small marker of your choosing instead of letting your highlight the phrase that the footnote is in regards to.

Thanks for the reply!

Forgot to check the “notify when reply is posted option” and only just noticed :frowning:

I tried changing the footnote marker option as you suggested, and that pretty much resolves 90% of the ‘forrest of footnotes makers’ issue that I’d been having (currently writing a paper using MHRA style so all references are in the footnotes).

Cheers

Ah yes, I myself prefer a bold distinction for formatting things, but I do not have to work with a thicket of footnotes. Rather they are all spread out thinly, so having them obvious is a great help. The marker method is there for situations like yours; hope it works well for you.
