Help! Can I set up two text document formats, one for draft docs and one for non-draft docs?

Hello. I’d like to have two document styles in a Scrivener project:

  1. Draft documents: Times New Roman, indented paragraphs, 1.5 line spacing. I have the defaults set up for this.
  2. I’d also like to have a document setup for non-draft, supporting info - Notes, research, ideas, etc. These text documents would use a non-serif font, no indent, spacing between paragraphs.

I tried setting up a template for #2, but it keeps wanting to revert to the default Times New Roman style when editing. I’m sure it is user error. I’m sure Scrivener can handle this, I’m just not seeing how to do it.

Thanks.

Are you talking about the “compile” setup – and yes, that’s easily done with two types of settings … or editor setup–I doubt that possible easily, but perhaps others can comment.

Hi ScrivNewbie. In your message, you said you set up a template for your notes, research, and ideas file.

Did you include a small amount of placeholder text in this template with the formatting you want the new documents to use?

I ask because Scrivener should be including that placeholder text in the new documents created from that template.

In §7.5.1 of the manual, there’s a yellow box titled “How can I give templates their own default text formatting?”

It notes that some placeholder text is needed to retain the formatting. It also suggests leaving that text highlighted in the template. That way, you can start typing in the new document to replace that material but keep your formatting.

If you haven’t reviewed the document templates part of the manual, §7.5 has some other tips you might find helpful. You can access a PDF of the manual from Scrivener’s Help menu.
