Help needed: Migrating project from Windows to macOS with "Linked to File" images (Absolute Paths issue)

Hi everyone,

I am currently in the process of migrating a Scrivener 3 project from Windows to macOS, and I’ve run into a significant issue with my images.

The Context: On Windows, I inserted my images using the “Insert > Image Linked to File” feature. All my image files are stored on Google Drive, which is mapped as the G: drive on my Windows machine.

The Problem: When I open the project on macOS, all images are displayed as MISSING_IMAGE because the absolute Windows paths (e.g., G:\My Drive\...) are not recognized by the Mac system.

What I tried: I received advice to convert these linked images to embedded images while still on Windows, to avoid pathing issues. However, I searched through the Documents menu and other locations, but I cannot find the “Convert Linked Images to Embedded” option anywhere.

My Questions:

  1. Could anyone point me to the exact location of the “Convert Linked Images to Embedded” option in Scrivener 3 for Windows? Do I need to select the images in a specific way for it to appear?
  2. If this option is not available, is there an alternative method (or script) to batch-convert these linked images to embedded ones?
  3. Failing that, is there a way to batch-update the absolute paths to relative ones so they work on macOS?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, as fixing this manually image-by-image would take a long time.

Thank you!

I use google drive to store images and when did import images as Research File shortcuts when moved the project from my computer to labtop even though files where in the same place the link was broken. You can either save the images inside the project. or relink the images in the new project on the Mac. I named the images the same when importing and added home for my home computer to distinguish from the images linked while working on my labtop. Not aware of way to rebuild the connection otherwise. Maybe someone else has a solution as not on Mac. Note: if the images are in one location you can import multiple images at once.
