I am using Scrivener 3.5.1 on a mac (OS Sequoia 15.6.1). When I launch Scrivener, the project templates window pops up, and if I double click the Scrivener icon I get a list of my recent projects–when I click on any one of these projects, however, nothing happens. No error message–nothing. If I go to the iCloud folder where I store my Scrivener projects, there is terrifyingly nothing there dated after 2024 (I’ve been using it almost daily for the past year). My backups (in ProtonDrive) do seem to be up-to-date, though I haven’t opened a backup yet. Please help!
(I don’t remember seeing the new Scrivener icon when I last used the app (on Friday), so perhaps it has updated automatically in the meantime and that’s caused some issue?)
OK–update!! To my immense relief, it turns out I did move back to using Dropbox instead of iCloud, which explains why iCloud files were out of date. I’ve been able to open the current projects from Dropbox. The issue with opening from Scrivener remains, however.
Might be incomplete sync with Dropbox? Do you have backups, preferably in Zip format, that you can revert to instead. More reliable.
How did you open the files successfully if not using Scrivener? Specifically, how are you trying to open with Scrivener (what menu commands)?
Are you using any security software? Silent refusal to open projects is often a sign that something on your system is refusing to allow Scrivener access to its own data.
Thanks for you reply! Somehow this has resolved without my doing anything…
Thanks for this–somehow it’s sorted itself out!
