Help with [finding the location of] Scrivener Search results

Hi there,
I’m afraid this is a stupid question, but I’m having trouble using Scrivener to see where things ARE in a manuscript I’m working on. For example, I have a section on “Non-Linearity” in Part IV of the MS. If I search “Non-Linearity” then that section does pop up in the pink/purple binder search results on the left-hand side. What it DOESN’T show is that I have this section inside of Part IV.

In other words, what I’d like to see is something like:

MS > Part IV > Chapter Title > Non-Linearity

But I don’t know whether Scrivener has this ability and, if so, how to find it.

Any thoughts?

Sincerely,

Once you’ve located the document, right-click on it and choose the Reveal in Binder command.

This will shift the focus back to the main Binder, but the Search Results collection is still there if you need to go back to it.

I have several folders and I did a search for a particular piece of writing and that came up, but then I could not tell where in the binder it was located.
So this isn’t very helpful for me because it’s still lost and I can’t tell where it is in the hierarchy.
Yes, I know I have that writing and yes, I found it via the search option, but where the heck is it in the scrivener binder which has hundreds of folders and sub folders. Thank you.

Hi Melissal, and welcome to the forum.

If you use the Navigate > Reveal in Binder command (Win+Shift+R), Scrivener should show all of the documents in the binder and highlight that specific document in the list.

Also, for a more passive look-up that doesn’t dismiss search results, hover your mouse pointer over either the text editor’s header bar, or the name of it in the search result list. This will print the full location showing each folder it is contained within, separated by a slash.
